Multiple reports have indicated that Elias Lindholm will not be re-signing with the Vancouver Canucks this offseason.

According to reports, it sounds like the Vancouver Canucks will be unable to re-sign Elias Lindholm this offseason. While nothing is set in stone, both Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali and Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet are reporting that all signs point to Lindholm heading to free agency on July 1. Friedman also reported earlier in the week that the Canucks were willing to give Lindholm a seven-by-seven deal, but based on this new reporting, it sounds like that deal was rejected.
Vancouver acquired Lindholm at the start of February in a blockbuster deal that sent Andrei Kuzmenko, Vancouver's first-round pick and a fourth-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft, as well as prospects Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo to the Calgary Flames. While Lindholm had a tough time in the regular season, he shined in the postseason, helping the Canucks to Game 7 of the second round. A solid two-way center who can kill penalties and win faceoffs; there should be plenty of teams lining up for his services during the 2024 offseason.
With Vancouver essentially out of the Lindholm race, attention now shifts to Jake Guentzel, who is also an unrestricted free agent. The former Pittsburgh Penguins forward has a long history with Jim Rutherford, Patrik Allvin and Rick Tocchet and was one of the players the Canucks targeted at the 2024 trade deadline. While it won't be an easy negotiation, as Guentzel could cost over nine million per season, his addition to the lineup would be a significant boost both to the top six and on the power play.
