Quinn Hughes heads into the 2024-25 season with a chance at setting multiple franchise records.

Welcome to the Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 Milestones Preview. In this series, we take a look at which players are closing in on milestones ahead of the upcoming season. In this edition, we take a look at Quinn Hughes who could set multiple franchise records over the next year.
Despite only playing 365 NHL games, Hughes has arguably already become the greatest defenceman in franchise history. In 2023-24, he became the first Canucks defender to take home to Norris Trophy while also setting a new franchise record for most points by a defenceman for the third consecutive season. Heading into his sixth full season with Vancouver, Hughes has the opportunity to re-write the record books again, which includes becoming the franchise's all-time points leader by a defenceman.
At the moment, Hughes sits second in franchise history with 333 points. The only player who stands in front of him is Alex Edler, who finished his Canucks career with 409 points in 925 games. While Hughes won't set the record right away, he should get the 76 points needed not just to tie Edler but surpass him by the end of the season.
As for a record Hughes may break early in the season, that is the franchise's all-time assist leader by a defenceman. Just like with points, Edler sits in first place but only leads Hughes by 20. Based on the fact that Hughes had 20 assists in his first 16 games last season, this could be a record Vancouver's captain sets before December.
When it comes to milestones, Hughes is expected to hit multiples during the 2024-25 season. He is ten assists away from 300 in his career and should be the first player from his draft class to hit the milestone. Hughes should also become the 15th Canucks player to play in 400 games, which, if he stays healthy, will come just before the New Year. Lastly, he is just 11 power play assists shy of 150 for his career, which would make him the fourth player to achieve the feat, following the Sedins and Markus Näslund.
In short, the 2024-25 season should be a special one for Hughes. He is set to achieve feats no other defenceman in franchise history has accomplished and may even add a second Norris Trophy by the end of the campaign. While Hughes' ultimate goal is to bring a Stanley Cup to Vancouver, there should be plenty of reason for fans to celebrate their captain next season.
