Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. This edition will cover Surrey, BC’s favourite Canuck, forward Arshdeep Bains.

    Bains’ 2024–25 Season

Bains played 13 games over a few stints with the big club last season, scoring his first NHL goal and point in an October win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Aside from his singular point, he also had eight shots on 16 shot attempts, 17 hits, and a plus/minus -5 rating.

Most of Bains’ success came in the AHL, where he was a member of the Calder Cup-winning Abbotsford Canucks team. In 50 regular-season games this season, Bains had 43 points (11 goals, 32 assists), which led the team. In the playoffs, he had 24 points in 24 games, and despite going goal-less in the first 16 postseason games — including being held pointless in the Pacific Division semifinals against the Coachella Valley Firebirds — Bains finished second in scoring for the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, only two points behind his Canucks teammate Linus Karlsson.

    Bains’ 2024–25 Letter Grade

For his overall 2024–25 campaign, Bains earned a B+ letter grade for his combined efforts between limited Vancouver appearances and Abbotsford’s championship run. From scoring his first NHL goal this past fall to lifting the Calder Cup in the spring, Bains had a year to remember for his third professional season.

    Bains’ 2025–26 Predictions

Next season is the first year of the two-year contract extension Bains signed in the early days of the offseason. The contract is a two-way deal for the 2025–26 season before it becomes a one-way contract the following year, meaning it is likely Bains spends another year splitting his time between the AHL and NHL, depending on training camp performance and injuries throughout the year.
