Logan Thompson made 30 saves, Chandler Stephenson scored twice, Jonathan Marchessault added a goal and an assist and William Karlsson picked up two helpers but it wasn't enough to pick up the extra point.
Marchessault opened the scoring with his 30th goal of the year. He backhanded the puck from in between the hash marks. This is the first time Marchessault has scored 30 goals in his career.
It's also the fourth time in the last seven games that Marchessault has scored the opening goal of the game.
Stephenson banked one of the post and in on the powerplay three minutes into the second period to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead.
Thomas Chabot cut the lead in half with a shot from the point.
A turnover in the Golden Knights zone ended up on the stick of Drake Batherson and he one-timed the game-tying goal.
The second period ended with a 20-18 shot advantage for the Senators.
Josh Norris gave the Senators a 3-2 lead in the third period when he tipped a Chabot point shot.
With the goalie pulled Stephenson scored his second goal of the game with a 1:15 left in the third period.
Nothing was solved in the overtime and in the shootout, Anton Forsberg stopped all three Golden Knight attempts. Tim Stutzle scored the lone goal in the shootout to win the game for the Senators.
The Golden Knights are back in action on Tuesday when they look to get revenge against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
