TSN updated their trade bait board and listed the Vegas Golden Knights 2024 first-round pick at number 47.
The TSN trade bait board is usually filled with players on teams that aren't going to make the playoffs and would have a lot of value on playoff teams but every now and then a team with Stanley Cup aspirations sees their first-round pick with a lot of value.
The Golden Knights have never been afraid to trade a first-round pick. They trade all three of their 2017 first-round picks. Nick Suzuki was involved in the Max Pacioretty trade, Erik Brannstrom was traded for Mark Stone and Cody Glass was traded for Nolan Patrick. Only Cody Glass played a game for the Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights didn't make a first-round selection in 2018. They traded their 2019 first-round pick Peyton Krebs and their 2022 first-round pick in the Jack Eichel trade. Zach Dean the 2021 first rounder was traded for Ivan Barbashev last season.
Only Brendan Brisson, selected in 2020 and David Edstrom, selected in 2023 are still with the Golden Knights.
If the Golden Knights see a trade where they believe their first-round pick is expendable, General Manager Kelly McCrimmon won't have any fear. The Golden Knights have been linked to Jake Guentzel and reports out of Pittsburgh have said that they want multiple first-round picks or a first-round pick and equivalent in top prospects or roster players. It's a steep price but if the Golden Knights believe they can resign Guentzel, the steep price may be worth it.
