Since returning for the all-star break the Vegas Golden Knights' offence has gone ice cold and has only scored more than three goals in just one of their games.
The Golden Knights average 3.15 goals per game this season and understandably without Jack Eichel, Mark Stone and a barrage of injuries to their forward group, the Golden Knights' offence is struggling to produce.
Since returning from the all-star break the Golden Knights have a 3-4-1. In those eight games, the Golden Knight have scored three or fewer goals seven times. The one time they eclipsed the three-goal mark was against the San Jose Sharks who have allowed the most goals this season.
The Golden Knights are in a difficult situation. The Golden Knights are icing three forwards who have less than 20 games of NHL experience. Brendan Brisson has spent this season playing in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights and has now been promoted to the top line with Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson.
Marchessault, Karlsson and Stephenson have stepped up offensively in the last couple of games since Stone went down with his injury but the Golden Knights are going to have to find a way to get others involved. Finding goals from depth forwards and defencemen would help the Golden Knights's offence.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about the game against the Ottawa Senators.
"In the second period, we had a chance to extend the lead over and over. We had a breakaway with Rempal, a point-blank Rempal, Hague, Karlsson had a two-on-one".
The Golden Knights schedule doesn't get any easier as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs next just six days after being beat 7-3. The Leafs are on a seven-game win streak and in those seven games, they've yet to give up more than three goals. Cassidy was pleased with the defensive effort against the Senators and the Golden Knights will need to replicate it against the Leafs.
