The Vegas Golden Knights have reportedly entered trade talks with the Calgary Flames over Noah Hanifin according to Elliotte Friedman.

The Vegas Golden Knights have reportedly entered trade talks with the Calgary Flames over Noah Hanifin according to Elliotte Friedman.

With the recent news that Alec Martinez is heading onto the IR with a lower-body injury, the Golden Knights have wasted no time in looking for a replacement.

Even without the news about Martinez, looking at acquiring Hanifin is a smart move. The team has been giving up a lot of goals since the all-star break and the 27-year-old defensemen would help fix those issues.

This season Hanifin has played in 61 games scoring 11 goals and 35 points. He’s quarterbacked the Flames second power play unit and has been a huge factor on their penalty kill.

The 6’3 American is averaging 23:46 of TOI this season. That’s the second most on the Flames only behind his partner Rasmus Andersson. Despite not playing on the top power play unit Hanifin is fifth on the team in points and first among defensemen.

If the Golden Knights are interested in acquiring the Flames defender, he could slot nicely beside Alex Pietrangelo. Pietrangelo can focus less on trying to find ways to produce offensively and Shea Theodore can get more favourable offensive matchups with Hanifin playing against the opponents top lines.
