It has been reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping to have a deal in place for Jake Guentzel. The Vegas Golden Knights have been heavily linked to him.
The Penguins have been very clear about what they are looking for. They want a first-round pick, a young NHL player and prospects. The Penguins entered the season with the oldest roster in the league, with an average age of 30.8. They had plans of giving Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin a roster that could help them compete for a Stanley Cup before they decided to hang up the skates but it hasn't worked out for Kyle Dubas and the Penguins.
Guentzel has been injured since Feb. 14 but could be eligible to return very soon. Guentzel is a 29-year-old winger and his playstyle would fit perfectly with the Golden Knights.
It's also been reported that the teams interested in acquiring Guentzel haven't shown much interest in trying to work out an extension. Guentzel is in the final year of his contract and is a UFA.
The price is set very high but history has shown that Guentzel could help a team win a Stanley Cup. He played a huge role in the Penguins winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with 13 goals and 21 points in the 2016-17 postseason.
The Golden Knights are in desperate need of a spark and GM Kelly McCrimmon may view an acquisition like this what the team needs.
