Tobias Bjornfot and Lukas Cormier play well in debuts for Golden Knights.

A pair of Vegas Golden Knight defensemen made their season debuts with the team in the 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
Tobias Bjornfot and Lukas Cormier played well in their first games with the Golden Knights. Cormier had an assist in his NHL debut.
“I liked both their games and it helped our breakout get out of trouble and first pass get out of our zone,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “That correlates to some of our offensive play. Now you're forechecking and, or at least, you're attacking. The more you do that, the better chance you have to score.”

Bjornfot played in one game this year for the Los Angeles Kings. Vegas claimed him off waivers on Thursday, and he performed well in his debut. He played in place of Zach Whitecloud, who sat out the game with an upper-body injury.
His Corsi percentage was 55.26, meaning the team had more offensive shots when he was on the ice, and he blocked two shots.
“Tobias, I thought made some real good small-area plays. He was smart with the puck. He put out fires with a good first pass, so to speak,” Cassidy said. “Angled well. He defends well with his brain and stick, used his body position. While he's not gonna overpower guys, I thought he was in the right spots to do that. Like this game a lot.”
Cormier, on the other hand, had a noticeable game on the stat sheet. He earned his first-career NHL point with an assist to Jack Eichel on the power play.
He also blocked a shot and has a Corsi percentage of 61.76 in 19:46 of total ice time.
“Cormier was good in transition. We only had one power play, so now obviously makes a nice play to Jack by getting middle ice. It seems like a little thing, but he does force their kill to shift,” Cassidy said. “Makes a good play. Gets his first NHL point, so good for him. But overall I thought he played the game in front of him. He didn't chase it. He didn't get caught out of position. He's inside the dots. I thought he processed the game well and in that regard.”
Added Cormier: It was everything I expected and more. It was a really fun experience.”
