The Oshawa Generals were at the center of hysteria in the hockey news earlier this week after sending out an email to their season-ticket holders reminding them about personal hygiene.

Reminding fans to shower before coming to games is about as bizarre, yet hilarious, as we’ve seen an organization with a message to its fans.

Unfortunately, Gens fans have not had a lot to cheer for this season. They sit at the bottom of the standings with just 13 wins in 52 games, trailing Erie by seven points for second-last. But their fans had a lot to cheer for on Friday night in their home barn. Let’s just hope they remembered to shower.

Oshawa’s rivals, Peterborough Petes, rolled into town as they looked to build off their impressive 7-3 over the Ottawa 67’s on Thursday night. The Petes are locked into the fourth spot in the East standings, as long as they don’t trip over themselves and collapse. The Gens laid out the first banana peel.

Oshawa took advantage of Peterborough playing on a back-to-back with travel, scoring 1:38 into the game, and adding another three in the opening frame to lead 4-1 going into the second intermission. The Petes started Masen Johnston in net, who has struggled mightily this season. He was pulled after allowing four goals on 13 shots in the first. In came Easton Rye to steady the ship.

Rye has been stellar for Peterborough in between the pipes this season, boasting the fourth-best save percentage in the league (.916%). However, he ran into an Oshawa squad that wanted to silence the hygiene remarks and give their fans a big celebratory victory over their rivals.

Oshawa’s Onni Kalto and Luke Posthumus added two more goals in the second frame. Another two goals were tallied up in the third, and despite Peterborough scoring three times in the final 20 minutes, that eight-spot the Gens put on the scoreboard was enough to shock the Petes.

With a dominating 8-4 win over Peterborough, this victory for the Oshawa organization means a whole lot more than the on-ice result. It’s not been a pretty week if you are a Gens fan. That email that blew up across social media painted a stinky picture of the fanbase, labeling them with stereotypes.

Led by Harrison Franssen and Owen Griffin’s two-goal performances and Lucas Moore’s four-point night, the players gave a helping hand to their organization to settle down the noise and get back to what really matters: hockey.
