Kingston gets an unexpected, big boost for next season as their captain announces his return.

After previously announcing his commitment to play collegiately at Clarkson University this fall, Kingston Frontenacs captain Vann Williamson has walked back that decision, and will return to the OHL for his overage season.

"After taking some time to reflect, I knew in my heart that I wasn't ready for my junior career to come to an end," Williamson said in a public statement, released by the Frontenacs.

"Kingston has become home over the last four years, and this organization has had such a huge impact on me as both a player and a person. I felt like I still had more to accomplish here."

The 19-year-old blueliner has spent his entire major junior career in Kingston after being named a fourth-round pick in the 2022 OHL draft, and will now return for a fifth season with the team.

Williamson put up 37 (3+34) points in 68 games last season on a Kingston team that was certainly in a bit of a retooling mode, as he took on a bigger role as the season rolled along.

Looking forward to 2026-27, the Frontenacs look in a much better spot.

Particularly, if the team can complete the signing of import blueliner Adam Goljer, and add him to a blue line featuring Williamson and Andre Mondoux alongside Gavin Betts in goal, that could make up one of the top back ends in the OHL.

Professionally, while he has never been drafted to the NHL, Williamson recently attended Vegas Golden Knights development camp.

It's unclear as of now whether the 6-foot-1 defender has fully decommitted from NCAA Clarkson or just pushed his commitment back a year, but nonetheless, Kingston's captain will be suiting up in the OHL once again this fall.
