The 6-foot winger will look to grow into a bigger role with Charlottetown.
With full training camps opening this week, it's the time for some preseason trades to happen as teams iron out what their rosters will look like ahead of the new season.
The Cape Breton Eagles and Charlottetown Islanders completed a deal on Monday, with Hugo Charron heading to the Islanders in exchange for third- and eighth-round picks in the 2028 QMJHL draft.
Charron, 18, was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 Q draft. After spending his 16-year-old season in U18 AAA, he made the Eagles roster last season as a depth player, scoring nine (4+5) points in 48 games.

(Photo: Jamie Lee Gouthro)The Vaudreuil-Dorion native likely didn't have much of a home on an Eagles forward core that has loaded up with plenty of talent, including Maxim Schafer, Liam Lefebvre, Cole Chandler and Elias Schneider as they press to be one of the top teams in the league in 2026-27.
So, Cape Breton has chosen to move a player on the outside of their roster to a Charlottetown team going through a good bit of turnover up front, a team that could use the two-way game of a Charron.
That is the idea of this trade, one that makes sense given the state of both teams. It should benefit Charron, as well, giving him a place to play much more than he would've in Cape Breton.
