Canada will play Finland in the Bronze Medal Game.
In one of the tournament's most exciting games, Team Canada came up just short, falling to Team USA 6-5 in a shootout at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games. With the loss, Canada will now face Finland in the Bronze Medal Game, while Team USA will battle Czechia for Gold. The Canadians have already beaten Finland in this tournament, winning 4-1 during group-stage play.
The WHL's most prominent star today was Spokane Chiefs Mathis Preston who finished the game with two goals and an assist. The third overall pick from the 2023 draft also recorded seven shots on goal, which was tied for the game lead with Alessandro di' Iorio. Other WHLers to collect points were Vancouver Giants' Ryan Lin and Victoria Royals' Keaton Verhoeff, who each finished with an assist. In net, Chiefs goaltender Carter Esler did start the game but was pulled just before the second period ended.
As mentioned, Canada will wrap up their 2024 Youth Olympic Games with a Bronze Medal Game against Team Finland. Team Canada has won a medal at the previous three tournaments and will be looking to beat Finland for Bronze once again, as they did in 2020. Game time is set for 8:00 PM PT on Jan 30 and can be watched via the event's official stream.
