An early look at four prospects expected to be selected early in the 2024 WHL Draft.
While some WHL teams are focused on the playoffs, others have turned their attention to the 2024 Prospects Draft. This year's prospect pool features plenty of high-end talent that has the chance to transform an organization for the next few seasons. Here is a look at four players who should hear their names called early in this year's draft.
Landon Dupont- Edge School U18 Prep
The projected number one pick in this year's draft is defenceman Landon Dupont. Currently playing at the U18 level, he leads his team in points and currently sits fifth among CSSHL U18 players with 42 through 21 games. Listed at 5'11" and 170 pounds, the smooth-skating, offensively gifted defender has the potential to be a high pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Eli McKamey- Shawnigan Lake School U18 Prep
The top-ranked forward this year is Eli McKamey. Listed at 6'1"and 174 pounds, he currently sits third on his U18 team with 38 points in 21 games. A dynamic threat who can beat defenders along the wall with speed, he should have no problem making life difficult for goaltenders across the WHL over the next few years.
Brock Cripps- St. George's School U15 Prep
Another exciting offensive defenceman in this draft is Brock Cripps. He currently leads the CSSHL U15 league with 49 points in 17 games and has already shown he can perform at the U18 level with three points in four games. Listed at 5'11"and 150 pounds, the right-shot defender has shown he can make a difference at both ends of the ice.
Blake Chorney- Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep
Listed at 5'11" and 170 pounds, Blake Chorney has the potential to be a star at the WHL level. He is already up to 30 points in 15 games at the U15 level and has also had the opportunity to play two games at the U18. Teams should be wary when the puck is on his stick as he can produce offensively through his dynamic shot and strong playmaking ability.
