Looking back at Connor Dewar, who was drafted by the Everett Silvertips in the fifth round.
Welcome to this edition of WHL Draft Day Steals. In this recurring column, we look at some of the best steals in the history of the WHL Draft. This week's steal is Connor Dewar, who was drafted by the Everett Silvertips 107th overall in 2014.
During the 2014 draft, the Silvertips selected a 5'7", 145-pound center named Connor Dewar. Playing for the Parkland Rangers U15 AAA team, he had 66 points in 32 games and finished second in the WAAA U15 league with 35 goals. He would play one more year with the Parkland Rangers at the U18 level in 2014-15 before making Everett's roster full-time at the start of the 2015-16 season.
Over the next four seasons, Dewar would play 270 games with the Silvertips. He finished his career with 99 goals and 197 points, ranking him ninth in franchise history. During his tenure, he was also named captain during the 2018-19 season and was a key player on the 2017-18 team, which made it all the way to the WHL Final.
Initially a third-round pick by the Minnesota Wild in 2018, Dewar has established himself as a reliable bottom-six player. He has played over 170 games and was recently dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs before the 2024 trade deadline. Looking back, it is safe to say Everett made the right move by selecting him in 2014.
