At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins acquired defenseman Henri Jokiharju from the Buffalo Sabres. Seeing the Bruins bring in a right-shot defenseman like Jokiharju was understandable, as they traded Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition, fellow right-shot defenseman Charlie McAvoy remains out.

Since his arrival, Jokiharju has become a key part of the Bruins' right side. The 25-year-old blueliner has played on the Bruins' top pairing with Nikita Zadorov and is currently on their second power-play unit. In six games with Boston since the trade, he has one assist, seven hits, nine blocks, and a plus-1 rating. Overall, he has handled himself well in a bigger role with Boston.

Jokiharju is a pending unrestricted free agent, meaning he would hit the market on July 1 if the Bruins do not sign him to a contract extension. However, with Jokiharju still being a young defenseman and the Bruins' right side not having the greatest depth, it is fair to question if the Original Six club will extend him.

If Jokiharju continues to play well defensively down the stretch, it will help his chances of sticking around beyond this season.

Do you think the Bruins should extend Jokiharju? Let your thoughts be known, and vote in the poll above.
