Brad Marchand's incredible tenure with the Boston Bruins came to an end at the 2025 NHL trade deadline when he was dealt to the Florida Panthers. This trade marked the end of an amazing era in Bruins history.
Fast forward to today, and Marchand is set to play in the Stanley Cup Final for the Florida Panthers. The trade has undoubtedly benefited the Panthers this summer, as Marchand has been a great fit on their roster.
While speaking to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, Marchand shared that he did not expect his final game as a Bruin to be the last one he would play with the Original Six club.
"I got hurt before I got traded," Marchand said to Wyshynski. "The last game I'll ever play in a Bruins jersey was not the last game I thought I was ever going to play in a Bruins jersey."
Marchand's final game with the Bruins was on March 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He exited it after just three shifts and 2:18 of ice time after being injured from an awkward hit by defenseman P.O. Joseph. This was certainly a sad way for Marchand's tenure with the Bruins to end.
This injury took away the possibility of Marchand playing one more game at TD Garden, as the Bruins hosted the Nashville Predators on March 4. Marchand was traded to Florida three days after this matchup against Nashville, so he could have played one last game as a Bruin in Boston if he had not gotten injured.
Marchand then admitted to Wyshynski that he has regrets about not appreciating things more at times during his stint with the Bruins due to the stresses that come from the game.
"When you come to the rink, it can be stressful," Marchand said to Wyshynski. "You start overthinking things. There's this pressure you sometimes put on yourself. You start stressing about things that you don't need to stress about. I know that there are moments that I missed out on or didn't really appreciate because I was stressing about other things."
While Marchand put too much pressure on himself at times while with the Bruins, he certainly still thrived in Boston. In 1,090 career games with the Bruins, he recorded 422 goals, 976 points, and a plus-284 rating. He also played in 157 playoff games with the Bruins, posting 56 goals and 138 points.
Now, Marchand will look to embrace the moment more as a member of the Panthers, with them being in the Stanley Cup Final. The 2006 third-round pick is having a strong post-season, as he has four goals, 14 points, and a plus-11 rating in 17 contests.
