Another game, another loss for the Boston Bruins.

This time, the Bruins fell to the New York Islanders by a 2-1 final score and have now lost five straight games. While the Bruins had far more offensive chances than the Islanders, goaltender Ilya Sorokin stood on his head. The Islanders goaltender stopped 38 out of 39 shots to steal two points for New York.

With the Bruins losing again, they are only continuing to hurt their chances of making the playoffs. They are now four points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and have played one more game.

Captain Brad Marchand was honest while speaking to reporters, including WEEI's Scott McLaughlin, following the Bruins' latest loss.

"It hasn't been the season that we wanted," Marchand said. "We haven't had the success that we would have liked to have this time of year, but the good thing is that we're coming together over it. At the end of the day, we may not achieve what we hope to this year, but that doesn't mean we can't build something greater and bring it back next year."

    Marchand then added:

"We're going to work every single day to continue to improve and build our game, and we're going to claw and fight every single day to get into the playoffs here."

When looking at where the Bruins are right now, it is hard to disagree with Marchand saying Boston's season has not gone as planned. The Bruins have a serious uphill battle to make the playoffs, and they are ice-cold at the worst possible time. Unless they heat up and go on a run, Boston will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

It will be interesting to see if Marchand and the Bruins can get things back on track and find a way to sneak into the playoffs from here.
