Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has been exactly what the Florida Panthers hoped he would be for them during this post-season. He has provided them with plenty of offense and great leadership, and this undoubtedly carried over to Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers.
Marchand put together a monster performance in Game 2 against the Oilers, as he scored two goals for the Panthers, including Florida's double overtime winner.
Marchand's first goal was a real beauty. After receiving a feed from Anton Lundell, No. 63 beat Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner five-hole on the breakaway to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead.
Marchand's double overtime winning goal was also quite similar. Like with his first goal, Marchand received a pass from Lundell and got a breakaway because of it. From there, he beat Skinner again five-hole, but this time on his backhand.
According to Sportsnet Stats, Marchand became the first player in NHL history to score a shorthanded goal and overtime goal in the same Stanley Cup Final game.
Marchand is known for being a clutch playoff performer, and he was exactly that for the Panthers in their much-needed Game 2 win. With this, the Bruins legend now has seven goals, 17 points, and a plus-14 rating in 19 playoff games so far this year.
