Former Boston Bruins defenseman Derek Forbort has signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
After not being re-signed by the Bruins this past off-season, Forbort signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Canucks in free agency. With this, Forbort could have become an unrestricted free agent again this summer on July 1, but that will now not happen with him signing this latest one-year deal with Vancouver.
Forbort appeared in 54 games this campaign with the Canucks, where he posted two goals, 11 points, 65 hits, 77 blocks, and a minus-7 rating. Overall, he proved to be a solid addition to Vancouver's roster this season, and most notably was often used on their penalty kill, much like he was while with the Bruins.
Forbort, 33, spent three seasons with the Bruins from 2021-22 to 2023-24. In 165 games as a Bruin over that span, the 6-foot-4 defenseman posted nine goals, 30 points, 307 hits, and a plus-22 rating. This included him scoring a career-high five goals and recording 12 points in 54 games with the Bruins in 2022-23.
