Former Boston Bruins draft pick Matt Benning has been placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Benning, 30, was dealt to the Maple Leafs back on Oct. 30 by the San Jose Sharks as a part of the Timothy Liljegren trade. Since then, the right-shot defender has not appeared in a game for the Maple Leafs. Now, he is on waivers.

Benning played in seven games with the Sharks this season before being traded, where he had zero points, nine hits, and a minus-5 rating.

Benning has a $1.25 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Benning was selected by the Bruins with the 175th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft but never appeared in a game for the Original Six club. In 464 career games split between the Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, and Sharks, Benning has 17 goals, 102 points, 714 hits, and 239 penalty minutes.
