Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery is keeping the club's Game 2 starter a secret.
The Boston Bruins are gearing up for a massive Game 2 matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. A win would give them a commanding 2-0 series lead before they travel to Toronto.
A big question surrounding the Bruins leading up to Game 2 is who their starting goaltender will be. The Bruins mainly split starts between Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark all season. Changing that last postseason burned them against the Panthers, but Swayman's outstanding Game 1 start has many wondering if he will get the nod in Game 2.
Linus Ullmark & Jeremy Swayman Swayman, 25, was sensational against the Leafs in Game 1, saving 36 out of 37 shots. As a result, taking him out of the crease is undoubtedly risky. However, the goalie tandem has provided nothing but excellent results all season, so a massive decision needs to be made.
Due to this, Bruins bench boss Jim Montgomery was naturally asked about who the Original Six club's starter would be for Game 2. Montgomery humorously responded to the question by saying, "Do you guys play Wordle? The goalie tonight has two vowels in his first and last name.
Of course, this does not provide any clarity about Boston's Game 2 starter, as Swayman and Ullmark both have two vowels in their first and last names. This is a joke that Montgomery had to have prepared because it's very clever.
Montgomery also said this to reporters on the subject: "I don’t tell my wife, I’m not telling you.”
Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk later weighed in on Montgomery's answer.
"I don't even know what those vowels are. You're asking the wrong guy."
It looks like the answer to the Bruins' goaltending mystery for Game 2 won't be revealed under we get much closer to puck drop.
