This Boston Bruins PTO addition has the potential to earn a contract.

Before the start of training camp, the Boston Bruins signed Tyler Johnson to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement. It is understandable that the Bruins invited Johnson to camp, as they lost multiple forwards this offseason. Thus, there are spots to fight for in their lineup, and Johnson gives them a veteran option to consider.
When looking at the Bruins' roster, there is no question that Johnson has the potential to earn himself a contract with a strong training camp.
Johnson, 34, would be a good player for the Bruins to have around during the season. This is because the Spokane, Washington native offers excellent versatility, playing all three forward positions. Thus, he could fit virtually anywhere in Boston's bottom six if officially signed.

Johnson also showed this past season that he can still provide solid secondary scoring. In 67 games this past campaign with the Chicago Blackhawks, he had 17 goals and 31 points. In addition, during the 2022-23 season with Chicago, he had 12 goals and 32 points in 56 games.
Furthermore, with the Bruins having high expectations for the year, signing a veteran with a plethora of playoff experience like Johnson could be beneficial. In 116 career playoff games, he has 32 goals, 65 points, and a plus-7 rating. In addition, he has two Stanley Cup championships on his resume.
Ultimately, on a cheap one-year deal, Johnson could be a valuable player for the Bruins to have around. If he stands out at training camp, it would not be surprising if he earns a contract. It would not hurt to have another veteran around for depth.
