EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid is an incredible athlete.

Not only that, the Edmonton Oilers captain is one of the best to ever play the sport. He might not be the next Wayne Gretzky - but he's going to do everything in his power to come close.

So far this season he's hit 900 career points in one of the fewest number of games of all time. Not only that, he's very close to hitting 1000 career points. He has 24 points left to reach that milestone.

He's chasing another milestone, and it's possible that he could hit it tonight against the Dallas Stars.

McDavid is sitting at 97 assists for the season. The last time a player hit 100 assists in a season was back in 1990-91 season when Gretzky did it. There are only two other players who have hit that mark - Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr, who both did it once.

Gretzky did it 11 times.

That should give a sense of just how incredible Gretzky was in his day - and just how incredible it is for any player to be mentioned in the same breath as one of his records.
