EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Arizona Coyotes yesterday. The final score was 6-3 but the Oilers laid an egg in the second period. They stormed out of the gate for the third period with four goals to win the game.

One player received a nice boost to their confidence in that game. Mattias Janmark scored just his second goal of the 2023-24 season. He was on an 11-game pointless streak beforehand.

Janmark brings a lot of tools to the table - his forechecking ability, speed and penalty kill utility. While all of those things contribute to a winning team the one thing that he's struggled with this season is point production.

In 41 games this season he only has seven points - a 0.17 points per game pace. This has him on track to record 14 points over an 82-game stretch.

That total is less than half of what he contributed last season. Janmark notched 10 goals and 15 assists last year. While he has never produced more than 34 points in his career, he's virtually a lock for at least 20-25 points over an entire season.

Both his shots on goal per game (SOG/G) and shooting percentage are down this year. He has 1.4 SOG/G as a career average but has only mustered one a game this year. His shooting percentage dip is more drastic. His career average is 10.5% - but this year he sits at a measly 4.9%, the second lowest of his entire career.

His ice time might have something to do with it - as he has averaged only 12:02 a game this year compared to 14:40 and 14:21 for the past two years.

Even with more ice time Janmark will need to shoot the puck more to have any hope of improving his shooting percentage. Luckily for him there are still 30 games left of the season for him to regain his stride.
