Former New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri has signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract extension with the New York Islanders. Starting next season, he will carry a $4.75 million cap hit with the Islanders.
Palmieri has been a key forward for the Islanders over the last five seasons, so it is not particularly surprising that they have brought him back on this two-year extension. Now, he will continue to be a notable part of their top six as they look to get back into the playoffs next year.
Back on May 14, we here at The Hockey News Devils discussed Palmieri as a potential free-agent target for New Jersey to consider pursuing to bring in more secondary offensive production. However, with Palmieri inking this new deal with the Islanders, this possibility can be forgotten.
Palmieri spent six seasons with the Devils from 2015-16 to 2020-21, posting 140 goals, 126 assists, and 266 points in 397 games. He was also named to the All-Star Game back in 2018-19 with the Devils and was an important part of their forward group. His time with the Devils ended during the 2020-21 campaign when he was traded to the Islanders.
