The Philadelphia Flyers traveled up to Manhattan to take on the New York Rangers, their last game in a tough stretch of games against some of the league's top teams, but couldn't quite conquer, taking a 6-5 overtime loss at Madison Square Garden.

The Philadelphia Flyers traveled up to Manhattan to take on the New York Rangers, their last game in a tough stretch of games against some of the league's top teams, but couldn't quite conquer, taking a 6-5 overtime loss at Madison Square Garden. 

It was an action-packed matchup, with both teams trading goals and no shortage of flaring tempers in a classic rivalry meeting. The Flyers' resiliency was perhaps no better showcased than in this game, giving the league-best Rangers a gritty hockey game to battle through.

After a relatively quiet first period, Scott Laughton opened the floodgates with a goal to put the Flyers up 1-0.

Ryan Poehling collected a powerplay goal for his career-high 10th goal of the season to put the Flyers ahead 2-0.

The Rangers were able to pull one back, courtesy of Mika Zibanejad, to make it a 2-1 game.

New York then made it interesting, tying it up 2-2 off a shot from Jonny Brodzinski.

Alexis Lafreniere joined the scoring party, pulling the Rangers ahead 3-2.

The Rangers once again took the lead on a shorthanded goal from Vincent Trocheck.

The Flyers weren't finished, with a goal from Owen Tippett to bring them level at 4-4. 

The Rangers weren't finished either, with Alexis Lafreniere inching them ahead 5-4.

Tyson Foerster came in clutch as the minutes ticked down, keeping the Flyers in the game by bringing the score to 5-5 and forcing overtime.

Despite a hard-fought 60 minutes, the Flyers fell in OT, with Adam Fox delivering the final dagger to give the Rangers the win. This win clinches their spot in the playoffs, along with being former Flyers coach Peter Laviolette's 800th NHL win. 

The road trip continues for the Flyers, who will face off against the Montreal Canadiens on Mar. 28 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
