Despite the Philadelphia Flyers' loss to the New York Rangers in overtime last night, the game on the ice was thrilling to watch. With under ten games left in the 2023-2024 season, the Flyers desperately need to rack up as many points as possible to maintain the third spot in the Metropolitan. The Flyers now sit with 82 points as the Washington Capitals are creeping right behind them with 81 points after an overtime win against the Detriot Red Wings.

Although the Flyers are playing like a playoff team, a few players set the tone for the club. Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett have been phenomenal for the Flyers, which was expected with their dominant presence on ice last season and throughout this year as well. Tyson Foerster is a player who might be one of the best rookies in the league. Having a breakout rookie season, Foerster now has 19 goals under his belt after sending the Flyers to overtime in the contest against the Rangers.

Foerster has only two goals behind Connor Bedard, who leads the rookies in goals with 21.

Another rookie who has been taking some heat lately is Sam Ersson. While nobody expected Ersson to become the starting goalie for the Flyers, he has stepped up tremendously.

Without a doubt, Ersson must do a lot of work to become more dominant between the pipes, which takes crucial time. Ersson leads the rookies in wins with 21 and shutouts with three. Ersson's save percentage of .895 lands him fourth among the rookie goalies.

The Flyers are in an active rebuild but have an 85% chance of making the playoffs. Many factors contribute to the Flyers' success, but the younger players have stepped up tremendously with their resiliency. John Tortorella has been another huge asset to the growth of the rookies and younger players, coaching them to success.
