The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Jake Walman and a 2024 2nd-round pick from the Detroit Red Wings.
Walman set career highs this season with 12 goals and nine assists. Detroit is likely trying to shed salary with this move as Walman has two years remaining with a cap hit of $3.4 million AAV.
Walman went viral for his Griddy celebration after scoring an overtime goal.
With the acquisition of the 2nd-round pick San Jose now has three second round selections: 33, 42, and 53.
Walman played NCAA hockey at Providence for three seasons. He adds to the pool of players GM Mike Grier has brought in who played in the NCAA.
