Happy Sunday, Sharks fans. Hope the week treated you well and you’re enjoying a bit of a break this weekend. As always, Sunday means it’s time for the Weekly Rundown. So grab your coffee, settle in, and let’s take a look back at everything that went down this past week on The Hockey News – San Jose Sharks site.
With the NHL Draft coming up fast on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, the focus has been all about draft coverage. Over the past several days, we’ve highlighted a few names that could be in play for the Sharks with their 30th and 33rd overall picks.
My colleague Jesse Courville-Lynch also looked into some RFA updates and took a closer look at a few pending free agents who were once targets for San Jose but have since re-signed with their current teams.
Looking ahead, there’s even more draft content coming. We’ll be diving into additional targets for both the first and second rounds, plus there’s a full mock draft and a Sharks-specific big board dropping later in the week ahead of Draft Day.
So make sure to bookmark this page and check back often. If you miss anything along the way, don’t worry. The San Jose Sharks Weekly Rundown will be here every Sunday to keep you in the loop.
Here’s the week that was:
San Jose Sharks 2025 Preseason Schedule Released
Now that the 2025 offseason is in full swing, things are starting to move quickly. But before trades, signings, and roster battles take over, the first official item on the calendar is the release of the preseason schedule. The San Jose Sharks dropped theirs today, and it’s about what you’d expect this time of year.
San Jose Sharks 2025 Second Round Draft Target: Jack Ivankovic
With the 2025 NHL Draft only a week away, the San Jose Sharks are getting ready to make up to nine total picks. The front office is spending a ton of time in meetings with their scouting staff to lock in who they believe will be the best picks to help improve the organization moving forward.
Former Sharks Forward Announces Retirement From NHL
While the San Jose Sharks are focused on their offseason and what they can do to slowly begin climbing back into playoff contention, one of their former forwards has announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 37.
San Jose Sharks 2025 Draft Target: Haoxi “Simon” Wang
Over the last few weeks, we've covered draft targets for the San Jose Sharks for both of their first-round picks. With the NHL Draft just over a week away, things are going to heat up, and fast. Teams are going to hold their final scouting meetings before the draft takes place next Friday, June 27th.
Potential San Jose Sharks RFA Target Re-Signs With Rangers
The San Jose Sharks could've had an offer sheet on the table for a depth power forward if he had hit the open market and been eligible for an offer sheet, but he has recently re-signed with the New York Rangers.
San Jose Sharks 2025 Draft Target: Henry Brzustewicz
As I mentioned in my Bill Zonnon draft target piece, the San Jose Sharks have two first-round picks and some big decisions to make. Their first pick is second overall, which they landed after falling one spot in the NHL Draft Lottery. The other may require more work from their scouting department. They hold the Dallas Stars’ 30th overall pick from the Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci trade earlier this season.
Potential Sharks Free Agent Target Reportedly Re-Signing With Dallas Stars
The San Jose Sharks could be quite active this summer, and while they have plenty of cap space to work with and could soon look to target some big-name free agents, it seems as though one potential target is coming off the board.
2 Potential Targets For The Sharks From The KHL This Offseason
The San Jose Sharks are expected to be aggressive this offseason, and while almost nobody expects them to be a playoff contender next season, the expectation is that they start to make some moves that prove they want to start making a push for the playoffs as soon as the 2026-27 season.
Sharks Should Consider Following Ducks' Trade Strategy
The San Jose Sharks are in the middle of a rebuild, and while Mike Grier is taking a slower, more patient approach to set the team up for long-term success, there are still some smart deals he could make to insulate the young core with experienced veterans.
Sharks & Stars Could Be Trade Partners On Draft Day
The San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars have the assets to pull off a big draft day deal.
San Jose Sharks 2025 Draft Target: Bill Zonnon
The 2025 NHL Draft is just 11 days away, and things around the NHL are going to get interesting and fast. As soon as the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals are over, the floodgates will open and there will be a ton of NHL news and rumours.
Sharks Should Target Brad Marchand This Offseason
The San Jose Sharks will have plenty of money to spend this summer, and they should be pretty active in free agency this summer. While they may not be ready to make a playoff push as early as next season, they should be willing to spend big so they can finally start to win more games.
3 Things The Sharks Can Do With Klim Kostin
The 2024-25 season is almost finished, with the Stanley Cup Final closing in on being completed, and a champion soon to be crowned. The Edmonton Oilers trail the Florida Panthers heading into Game 6, and while there are some former San Jose Sharks that fans can cheer for, fans are mainly focused on what the offseason will look like for their team.
