The Vancouver Canucks created a special memory for the fans at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night as they defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-4. Vancouver came back from a 4-1 deficit late in the second, as they took a 1-0 lead in the series. The Canucks received goals from Dakota Joshua, Elias Lindholm, J.T. Miller, Nikita Zadorov and Conor Garland, while Artūrs Šilovs made 14 saves for his third career postseason win.

Despite being in a 4-1 hole, Vancouver was the better team the majority of the night. They held the Oilers to eight shots through the final 40 minutes and were able to limit Edmonton to only one power play. What was most important, however, is that the Canucks continued to press, despite the three-goal deficit and were eventually rewarded with the win.

Lastly, Vancouver's ability to shut down Connor McDavid was impressive. The Oilers captain did record an assist but finished with a plus/minus of -1 and no shots. McDavid also went five for 18 in the faceoff dot, including zero for six in the offensive zone. Overall, the Canucks deserve a ton of credit for the way they shut down one of the best players in the league, as they limited his impact in Game 1.

    Quotes

Nikita Zadorov on the Canucks ability to limit the Oilers chances:

"We've been talking about it for a few days. The defensive structure is how we want to play against those guys. That's our game. You know, that's our mindset. We take pride in what we do defensively."

Elias Lindholm on the Canucks resiliency in Game 1:

"It's huge. Obviously, when we came back before. This team, never give up mentality. We were down 4-1, but it still felt like we could come back. We did a good job staying with it and get the result we needed."

Dakota Joshua on the Canucks confidence regardless of the score:

"We're always confident. No matter what the score is, we're gonna keep playing hard and keep playing the same way. Tonight was an example of it. Just stay with it, and we got our bounces tonight."

Rick Tocchet on the Canucks comeback:

"I thought when we made it 4-2, the crowd was really loud. Definitely, the fans helped us tonight, but that 4-2 goal, they are still up 4-2, but that building was really loud. Obviously, the 4-4 goal was huge, but I think the 4-2 goal gave us a little bit of energy. The crowd gave us energy, for sure."
