A look at some of the analytics from the Canucks 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks most recent 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Just like the score, the even strength analytics were very close. Vancouver had a slight edge in scoring chances at 22-19 while they also won the high-danger battle 13-11. Ultimately though, it was the Canucks play on the power play and penalty kill that led them to victory over the Ducks.

Moving over to the heatmap, it shows that Vancouver did a great job crashing the net, which in turn led to all three of their goals. The Canucks also did a good job generating chances from the middle of the ice, which has been a point of emphasis from Rick Tocchet as of late. As for how Vancouver played in the defensive zone, they were able to clear the front of the net for the most part while forcing Anaheim to shoot from low-danger areas. From a defensive perspective, the Canucks played a strong game, with the only glaring issue being missed assignments on the Ducks' second goal.

One line that dominated in this game was the trio of Dakota Joshua, J.T. Miller and Conor Garland. The line linked up for the game-winning goal while the Canucks outshot Anaheim 14-4 in 9:48 of ice time. The All-American trio also held a 7-3 high-danger chances advantage and finished the night with an xGF% of 65.45. While it was only one game, the three looked like they had chemistry and could be a line combination option come playoff time.

Lastly, it was another strong night for the Carson Soucy and Tyler Myers pair. The duo played 15:18 together at even strength, with Vancouver holding a 7-3 high-danger chances advantage with them on the ice. Soucy and Myers were also the pairing on the ice for the game-winning goal while holding Anaheim's top six in check for the majority of the night. Ultimately, Soucy and Myers have developed into a strong pairing and one that will be crucial for the Canucks in the postseason.
