The Abbotsford Canucks have signed defenceman Joe Arntsen to a one-year AHL contract for the 2024-25 season. Arnsten was also signed to an amateur tryout (ATO) and will join Abbotsford for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old left-shot defenceman joins the Canucks after a six-year career with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL, where he served as captain for the last two seasons.

Listed at 6'3", 212 pounds, Arnsten had 106 points in 268 career WHL games. Arnsten averaged over 21 minutes a night for the Hurricanes and is known for his ability to win puck battles in the defensive zone. He surpassed the 100-shot mark for the third consecutive season and won the Hurricanes Community Relations Award for the second consecutive season.

Abbotsford is set to close out their season next weekend with a pair of games against the Calgary Wranglers. The Canucks have already clinched a spot in the AHL playoffs and are currently fighting for home-ice advantage in the first round. With 83 points in 70 games, Abbotsford currently sits fourth in the Pacific Division but will need to win both their games against Calgary to guarantee first-round games will be played at the Abbotsford Centre.
