Patrik Allvin is the second general manager in Vancouver Canucks history nominated for the Jim Gregory General Manager Of The Year Award.
Yet another member of the Vancouver Canucks is being recognized for an outstanding 2023-24 season. On Thursday morning, the NHL announced that GM Patrik Allvin was a finalist for this year's Jim Gregory General Manager Of The Year Award. Allvin now joins Mike Gillis, who won the award in 2011, as the only two GMs in franchise history nominated for the award.
Allvin had a remarkable season on the signing and trade front. He signed Teddy Blueger, Pius Suter, Carson Soucy and Ian Cole during the offseason while traded for Casey DeSmith, Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm and Sam Lafferty, who all had impacts on the team during the regular season and playoffs. He was also able to sign Elias Pettersson to an eight-year, $92.8 million contract, which is the largest in Canucks history. Thanks to Allvin's work, Vancouver captured their first Pacific Division title, while their 109 points in the regular season were the third-highest in franchise history.
As for Allvin's competition this season, that is Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers and Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars. Both were nominated for the award last year, with Nill winning and Zito finishing in third place. This year's Jim Gregory General Manager Of The Year Award will be announced on June 10, with the announcement scheduled to come before the puck drop of a Stanley Cup Final game.
