Hughes broke his own record, which he set during the 2022-23 season.
Quinn Hughes has once again broken a franchise record. Recording his 77th point of the season, the Vancouver Canucks captain broke the franchise record for points by a defenceman in a single season. Hughes, who set the record last season, owns the top three highest-scoring seasons by a defenceman in franchise history and is the only defender in Canucks history to record a 70-point campaign.
Outside of Hughes, only two other defenders have eclipsed the 60-point mark in a season for Vancouver. Doug Lidster recorded 63 during the 1986-87 season, while Dennis Kearns had 60 in 1976-77. Currently at 63 assists, Hughes is also the only defenceman in franchise history to eclipse the 60-assist mark in a season, hitting the mark in each of the last three campaigns.
On pace to surpass the 90-point mark this season, Hughes should continue to climb multiple all-time lists. He is 11 away from tying Dennis Kearns for second on the franchise's all-time assist by a defenceman list, while he is three away from tying Kearns and Jyrki Lumme for 3rd on the all-time points by a defenceman list. Playing in game number 351 of his career, he should become the first player in franchise history to be nominated for a Norris Trophy later this season.
