Former Vancouver Canucks coaches Willie Desjardins and Mike Johnston have been nominated for this year's Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy. Desjardins, who is the coach and general manager of the Medicine Hat Tigers, was the Central Division nominee for the second straight season after guiding the Tigers to a 37-23-6-2 record. As for Johnston, he is the head coach and GM of the Portland Winterhawks and was also the U.S. Division nominee for Executive of the Year after leading the Winterhawks to a 48-15-4-1 record and a U.S. Division title.

Desjardins' time in Vancouver was short but memorable. He was behind the bench for three seasons from 2014-17 and was the head coach the last time the Canucks hosted a playoff game at Rogers Arena. Over his 246 games, he finished with a record of 109-110-27 and sits in sixth place on the franchise's all-time wins list. Now, back in the WHL, Desjardins is helping the next generation develop into stars. Led by Gavin McKenna, Andrew Basha, and Cayden Lindstrom, the Tigers are an up-and-coming team with a bright future ahead of them.

As for Johnston, he spent five seasons in Vancouver as an assistant/associate coach from 1999-04. During that time, he coached the Sedins, Mattias Öhlund and Markus Näslund and helped develop them into franchise icons. Now, with Portland, he has turned the Winterhawks into one of the most successful clubs in the WHL. Portland has made the playoffs every year. Johnston has been behind the bench since 2010 and is considered a favourite to represent the WHL at this year's Memorial Cup.

The Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy winner is scheduled to be released on May. 1, 2024, with the winner being the WHL nominee for CHL Coach of the Year.
