Jonathan Lekkerimäki added another award to his trophy case as he was named Young Player of the Year at the 2024 Fenix Outdoor Euro Hockey Awards. This year's Young Player of the Year Award, which is awarded to the "most valuable U22 player in European hockey during the past season," featured a stack class, with Lekkerimäki beating out Ville Koivunen, Jani Nyman, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Jiří Ticháček. Given out by the Alliance of European Hockey Clubs, past winners include William Wallinder, Moritz Seider and Elmer Söderblom.

After a tough 2022-23 campaign, Lekkerimäki bounced back in a significant way. Some of his accomplishments include being named the MVP of the 2024 World Juniors, winning SHL Best Junior and being named the Swedish Junior Hockey Player of the Year. This season with Örebro HK, the Canucks first-round pick from 2022 had 19 goals and 31 points in 46 games, leading all U22 players SHL players in both categories.

After his SHL season concluded, Lekkerimäki made the jump to the AHL, playing six games with the Abbotsford Canucks. During that time, he scored his first career goal while adding his first career assist. The plan heading into the 2024-25 season is for the 19-year-old to start in the AHL, but with a strong preseason, Lekkerimäki could force his way into the conversation for a spot on the NHL roster.
