According to The Fourth Period, Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Lafferty is expected to hit the free-agent market.
Pagnotta reports that the door isn't closed for Lafferty to return to Vancouver, but by all accounts, the 29-year-old wants to explore the open market.
"The Canucks and Lafferty's camp have spoken recently, and he hasn't closed the door on Vancouver, but he seems interested in exploring his options at this moment," Pagnotta writes.
Lafferty had a career year in just about every category. He played 79 games, a career-high, scored 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points, a career-high, and had three game-winning goals.
Lafferty's cap hit was $1.15 million, and with the cap rising to $88 million, that number will likely increase. He is a valuable depth forward who can kill penalties for any NHL team.
