Team Canada has announced their coaching staff for the upcoming World Juniors, with the group featuring plenty of WHL connections. Portland Winterhawks' Mike Johnston will be behind the bench as an assistant coach for Canada, which Dave Cameron will run. While Johnston has won six Gold Medals with Canada at various tournaments, this will be the first time he is behind the bench since the 2009 U18s when he coached future NHLers, including Brayden McNabb and Cody Eakin.

In addition to Johnston, Lethbridge Hurricanes GM Peter Anholt will return as the leader of the Program of Excellence management group. Other WHL connections on the team include Winterhawks Clayton Johns, who will be part of the equipment staff, as well as WHL alumni Brent Seabrook, who will join Anholt in the management group. Team Canada is currently scheduled to hold a four-day training camp from July 28-31, which will be followed by a selected team heading to Plymouth, Michigan, to participate in the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase from  Aug. 1-3.
