A look at six WHLers who are projected to be high draft picks in 2025.
The 2024 NHL Entry Draft has concluded with 34 WHLers hearing their name called. This year's draft featured five WHLers picked in the first ten picks, led by Cayden Lindstrom, who was selected fourth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets. With the 2024 Draft now concluded, it is time to look ahead to the 2025 NHL Entry Draft and, which six WHLers could hear their name called early next year.
Cole Reschny- Victoria Royals
Cole Reschny put on a show in his rookie season. The Victoria Royals forward recorded 59 points in 61 games while also averaging over 20 minutes a night. One of the best young playmakers in the WHL; fans on Vancouver Island should expect big things from number seven next year.
Roger McQueen- Brandon Wheat Kings
The Brandon Wheat Kings have a stud in Roger McQueen. An unstoppable power forward at the WHL level, McQueen recorded 51 points in 53 games while averaging 17:31 of ice time. Already listed at 6'5", 190 pounds, he is going to cause defenders across the league issues in 2024-25.
Jordan Gavin- Tri-City Americans
All Jordan Gavin has done since he joined the WHL is produce. The Tri-City American forward recorded 68 points in 68 games during his second full WHL season while playing over 20 minutes a night. A playmaker who makes his linemates better, the 17-year-old has the potential to be a first-rounder next year.
Cameron Schmidt- Vancouver Giants
Few players have the speed and shot that Cameron Schmidt has. The Vancouver Giants forward set a new franchise record for goals by a rookie with 31 and scored the tournament-winning goal at this year's U17s. If he can take another step forward, he could flirt with the 50-goal mark in 2024-25.
Reese Hamilton- Calgary Hitmen
One of the top WHL defensemen available next year will be Reese Hamilton. The 17-year-old recorded 31 points in 42 games while averaging over 20 minutes. Selected to Team Canada's U18 team this year, watch for Hamilton to be one of the top-scoring draft-eligible defensemen in the CHL next year.
Joshua Ravensbergen- Prince George Cougars
Joshua Ravensbergen put together one of the greatest seasons by a rookie goaltender in WHL history. The Prince George Cougars goalie went 26-4-1 during the regular season while leading the league with six shutouts. Undrafted at the WHL level, Ravensbergen is projected to be one of the first goaltenders off the board at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
