Funk leads the WHL with 56 goals this season.

Zac Funk was rewarded for his strong season on Friday, signing an entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals. The Prince George Cougars forward is making the most of his final WHL season as he currently is the only player to have scored over 50 goals in 2023-24. An undrafted prospect, he becomes the first WHL-free agent to sign a contract in 2024.
Funk is having a historic year for the Cougars. He has already set the franchise record for most goals in a season and, with one more point, will become the fourth player in franchise history to record a 100-point season. He also recently surpassed the 200-point mark for his career and is projected to surpass the 100 career mark for both goals and assists later this season.
Initially a second-round selection by the Calgary Hitmen in 2018, Funk has earned this opportunity. He made an immediate impact after being traded to Prince George last season and is on pace to have one of the best overager seasons since 2000-01. If he can continue this momentum into the postseason, the Cougars have an excellent chance at making the WHL West Final and, potentially, the Memorial Cup.
