The Swift Current Broncos have bolstered their blue line, acquiring WHL champion defenceman Kayd Ruedig.

On Monday, the Swift Current Broncos announced the acquisition of 2007-born defenceman Kayd Ruedig from the WHL Champion Everett Silvertips.

In exchange for the 18-year-old blueliner, Swift Current sent Everett the sixth overall selection in the upcoming 2026 CHL Import Draft.

Ruedig is coming off a whirlwind 2025-26 campaign that culminated in a deep postseason run. The Humboldt, Saskatchewan native began the year with the Portland Winterhawks before being dealt to the Kamloops Blazers. Following a 27-game stint with Kamloops, he was traded to Everett, where he settled in and became an integral piece of a powerhouse championship roster. Across 66 combined regular-season games between the three clubs, he posted 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points.

During the postseason, Ruedig elevated his game, logging two goals and four assists in 17 playoff contests to help guide the Silvertips to the Ed Chynoweth Cup. His strong play continued on the national stage at the 2026 Memorial Cup, where he contributed a goal and two assists in five games before Everett ultimately fell to the Kitchener Rangers in the final.

The acquisition is a homecoming of sorts for Ruedig, who is no stranger to the local hockey scene. He spent the 2023-24 season playing for the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires AAA program, serving as an alternate captain while recording 31 points in 37 games.
