At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins traded Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt, William Zellers, and a 2025 second-round pick. This marked the end of Coyle's seven-year stint with the Bruins.
Following his trade to Colorado, Coyle posted two goals and 13 points in 19 regular-season games. The former Bruins forward cooled off during the post-season, however, recording one assist and a minus-4 rating in seven playoff games for the Avalanche.
Now, with the off-season here, Coyle is once again creating some chatter as a potential trade candidate with his new team.
In a recent article for the Toronto Sun, Nick Kypreos reported that Coyle could be made available for trade due to the Avalanche signing fellow center Brock Nelson to a three-year, $22.5 million contract extension earlier this week.
"Not too many were surprised to see Brock Nelson re-up in Colorado after the hefty price they paid to acquire him at the deadline. That signing should put Avalanche centre Charlie Coyle, who’s owed $5.25 million for one more season, back on the trade market," Kypreos said.
If the Avalanche end up shopping Coyle, he should generate interest from teams looking for help down the middle in their top nine. The Massachusetts native also has plenty of playoff experience and works on the power play and penalty kill, which adds to his appeal.
In 83 games this season split between the Bruins and Avalanche, Coyle recorded 17 goals, 35 points, 108 hits, and a minus-9 rating. This was after he set new career highs with 25 goals and 60 points in 82 games with the Bruins in 2023-24.
