The 2024-25 season was truly a nightmare for the Boston Bruins. They finished the campaign with a 33-39-10 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016 because of it. This was unexpected before the season, too, as they had just done plenty of spending during the 2024 NHL off-season.
While the Bruins struggled big time this season, they also had some bright spots. Morgan Geekie was undoubtedly one of them, as the 26-year-old broke out and cemented himself as one of the Bruins' top players in the process. In 77 games this campaign, the 6-foot-3 forward set new career highs with 33 goals, 24 assists, and 57 points.
With the summer here, Geekie has created some chatter as a potential trade candidate, making both Chris Johnston's latest trade board for The Athletic and Frank Seravalli's trade targets board for Daily Faceoff.
While the 2017 third-round pick is a restricted free agent this summer and his trade value is undoubtedly higher after his impressive season, the Bruins should seriously avoid making the big mistake of trading him. He was one of the few Bruins forwards who stepped up this season, and trading him would just create another major hole in their lineup.
With how Geekie played this season, he is a player they should look to keep in Boston. This is especially so when noting that he formed incredible chemistry with Bruins superstar David Pastrnak this season. There is also reason to believe that he could hit another new level in 2025-26, as he only got better as this campaign rolled on.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens with Geekie and the Bruins this off-season. While he undoubtedly has the potential to land them a good return in a potential move, he is the kind of forward the Bruins should keeping around as they look to get things back on track.
