The Boston Bruins' offense has struggled early on this season, which is a significant reason why they are off to a rough start. With the Bruins having high expectations, it would not be shocking if they browse the trade market.

When looking at potential trade candidates around the NHL, one who stands out as an interesting option is San Jose Sharks forward Mikael Granlund.

Granlund, 32, is currently in the final season of his contract on a rebuilding Sharks team. As a result, there naturally has been some trade speculation surrounding the veteran forward. This will only continue to be the case if he does not sign a contract extension with the Sharks as we get closer to the deadline.

Granlund is quietly off to an excellent start this season with the Sharks, posting five goals and 13 points in his first 12 games. This was after the 2010 first-round pick had 12 goals and 60 points in 69 games with the Sharks last season. With numbers like these, he has shown that he can still be an impactful top-six forward. Thus, he could be a great player for Boston to try to add.

Granlund also offers wonderful versatility, as he can play down the middle and on both wings. In addition, his solid two-way play allows him to work on both the power play and penalty kill.

Granlund has a $5 million cap hit, so the Bruins would need to be creative to fit him in financially early on during the season. However, they have a projected $5.06 million of trade deadline cap space, so a potential Granlund trade later this season would be more manageable. Thus, he is a player Boston should be keeping an eye on.
