This former Bruins defender is leading the NHL with this stat.

Former Boston Bruins defenseman Dmitry Orlov is off to an excellent start this season with the Carolina Hurricanes. In 21 games, the 5-foot-11 defender has three goals, 13 points, and 26 hits. He has also been on a tear lately, recording an assist in each of his last five games.
Orlov's hot start to the season has him on top of the entire NHL in an interesting start. At the time of this writing, Orlov has an excellent plus-20 rating. He has really boosted it over his five-game point streak, too, as he has a plus-8 rating over that span.

The Hurricanes currently have a 15-5-1 record, so their success has naturally played a role in Orlov's high plus/minus rating. However, he is still ahead by a solid margin compared to his teammates, which shows he has been steady defensively early on. Jalen Chatfield (plus-17 rating) is the closest to Orlov, while Jordan Martinook (plus-12 rating), Eric Robinson (plus-9 rating), and Jordan Staal (plus-8 rating) follow him.
Seeing Orlov finding success with the Hurricanes is not surprising. During his time as a Bruin, he thrived because of his all-around excellent play. In 23 regular-season games as a Bruin in 2022-23, he had four goals, 17 points, and a plus-10 rating. He then followed that up by posting eight assists in seven post-season games with the Bruins.
