The Boston Bruins announced on June 5 that Marco Sturm would officially be their new head coach. It was not the most surprising of announcements, as Sturm had been heavily linked to the Bruins' vacant bench boss job throughout their coaching search.
Now, after being named the Bruins' new head coach, Sturm reacted to the big news by sending a message to the team's fans. "Hey, Bruins fans, it's Marco Sturm. I'm so excited and happy and honored to be your new head coach and be back in Boston," Sturm said. "I had a great time here as a player, and I'm looking forward to lead this team and be behind the bench. Let's do it together, Boston. Looking forward to see you."
Sturm also issued a statement after being named the Bruins' new head coach.
"I’m incredibly honored to be named head coach of the Boston Bruins,” Sturm said. “I want to thank Charlie Jacobs and the Jacobs Family, Cam Neely and Don Sweeney for trusting me with this opportunity."
“Boston has always held a special place in my heart, and I know how much this team means to the city and to our fans. I’ve felt that passion as a player, and I can’t wait to be behind the bench and feel it again. I’m excited to get to work and do everything I can to help this team succeed."

Time to get to work.
Clearly, Sturm is ecstatic about being the Bruins' latest head coach. The 46-year-old now has the giant task of trying to get the Bruins to be a competitive club again. It will not be easy, though, as the Bruins took a major step in the wrong direction last season and traded away former core players at the deadline. However, he certainly seems ready to take on the challenge.
Sturm played five out of his 14 NHL seasons as a member of the Bruins and had a strong tenure with the Original Six club, so it makes sense that he is happy to be back in Boston. In 302 games as a Bruin from 2005-06 to 2009-10, he had 106 goals, 87 assists, and 193 points.
