This new Boston Bruins goalie did a good job in his first pre-season appearance for the Original Six club.

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

The Boston Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals by a 4-2 final score in their second pre-season matchup of the year on Tuesday (Sept. 24). Overall, it was a solid game for the Bruins, and several of their players stood out in the process.

New Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo was among them, as he was good in his first pre-season appearance for Boston.

Korpisalo played the first half of the game for the Bruins, where he saved all seven shots he faced. While he did not face a ton of shots, he stepped up when challenged and made some solid stops in the process.

Following the game, Montgomery praised Korpisalo for making some big saves in the matchup:

"He made four really difficult saves look easy. You can just tell he’s composed. He’s big in the net. Washington had a lot of opportunities they missed the net on because he’s out, he’s taking away the angles. So the shooters try to be perfect and miss the net. It’s a small thing that good goalies do.”

Overall, Korpisalo left the Bruins with a good first impression, and Montgomery clearly liked what he saw from the newcomer. It will be interesting to see how well Korpisalo performs for the remainder of the pre-season.
