To start off this past week in news, Connor McDavid won each of the four awards that he was nominated for. The Maurice Richard and Art Ross trophies of course did not require votes as they are given out to the player with the most goals (Maurice Richard) and the most points (Art Ross). Despite McDavid's success, Stuart Skinner finished second in Calder Trophy voting for best rookie and Mikael Backlund won the King Clancy award over Darnell Nurse.

The Oilers made three picks at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. They chose Beau Akey, Nathaniel Day and Matt Copponi. Akey projects to be a top-four two-way mobile defenceman. Day and Copponi are long-term projects who could pan out nicely with the right development and deployment.

Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin were traded to the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations. Yamamoto was eventually bought out and signed a one-year deal elsewhere.
