Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports - Flyers Goalie Makes Sweden's World Championship Roster

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Sam Ersson has been named to Team Sweden's IIHF Men's World Championship roster.

The 24-year-old is coming off of his rookie NHL season, where he played 51 games, recording 23 wins (including four shutouts), a 2.82 GAA, and a .890 SV%.

Ersson was a key player in the Flyers' playoff push, despite concern that he was being overworked after unexpectedly having to take over starting goalie responsibilities after former No. 1 Carter Hart became embroiled in legal controversy following the 2018 WJC sexual assault scandal and took an indefinite leave of absence from the team. According to head coach John Tortorella, Ersson was originally slated to only start 18-22 games during the season.

This will be Ersson's first time representing Sweden at the senior level, having previously represented his country at the 2019 World Junior Championship, where he played four games, recording three wins, a 2.23 GAA, and a .922 SV%.

Flyers teammate Joel Farabee will also be participating in the World Championship, representing the United States. The pair's home countries will face off in a preliminary round game on May 10.

The IIHF World Championship will take place in Czechia from May 10-26.
